WHY YOU NEED IT

Washington State requires a child support order in any divorce case in which the divorcing spouses have children.  If you are filing for temporary orders and have children, you must submit a proposed order of child support.  Your order of child support will set out how much each parent must pay towards a child’s financial support each month.

The order of child support also contains provisions requiring one or both parents to maintain health insurance for the child, and determines each parent’s proportionate obligation to pay for expenses not included in the monthly support payment (such as uninsured medical expenses).

All of these figures and obligations are calculated using two primary factors: (1) each parents’ income and (2) the age of the child(ren) – more about this next week when we discuss the Child Support Worksheet.
